China's Visa-Waiver Policy Sparks 152% Surge in Tourism

In the first half of the year, 14.64 million foreigners visited China, reflecting a 152% increase compared to the previous year, according to the National Immigration Administration.

Traditionally a leader in outbound tourism, China is now concentrating on enhancing its inbound arrivals. Recent adjustments to the visa-free policy seem to have significantly boosted the number of foreign visitors to the country.

From January to June this year, over 8.5 million visa-free entries were recorded, accounting for 58% of inbound travel and representing a 190% year-on-year increase.

Tourism experts attribute this surge to the new visa policies, which make it easier for tourists to visit China. The government’s efforts to promote cultural and historical sites, alongside these visa changes, have also played a crucial role in attracting more visitors.

The increase in foreign tourists is expected to have a positive impact on the Chinese economy. Local businesses, particularly in the hospitality and retail sectors, are likely to benefit from the influx of international visitors, contributing to economic growth and cultural exchange.
