The New Zealand government has expanded work visa opportunities for partners of students enrolled in qualifications listed on the Green List, aimed at addressing skill shortages in critical sectors. This update allows partners of students pursuing level 7 or 8 qualifications in specified fields to apply for a work visa with open conditions.
The announcement, made on June 21, reflects efforts to streamline pathways to residency for those contributing to New Zealand’s workforce in high-demand professions.
The Green List now includes Bachelor’s and Bachelor Honours qualifications essential for roles such as nurses, doctors, teachers, and dentists, identified as crucial occupations requiring skilled professionals.
These qualifications are pivotal in facilitating access to occupations that play a vital role in the country’s healthcare, education, and other essential services.
Jeannie Melville, deputy chief operating officer of immigration at the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment, emphasized the importance of these qualifications in meeting New Zealand’s workforce needs.
The move aims to attract and retain skilled individuals who contribute significantly to the country’s economy and community well-being, aligning with broader immigration strategies focused on skill and talent retention.
