How Can I Apply for Canada Work and Study Visa?
Here’s a clear guide on how to apply for work and study visas in Canada:
1. Study Visa (Study Permit)
Purpose: Allows you to study at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Steps to Apply:
• Get accepted: Obtain an acceptance letter from a recognized Canadian school (DLI).
• Prepare documents: Valid passport, acceptance letter, proof of funds, passport photos, letter of explanation, medical exam (if needed).
• Apply online or on paper: Submit the application through the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
• Biometrics: You may be required to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
• Wait for processing: Usually takes a few weeks to months.
• Receive permit: Once approved, you get a study permit allowing you to study in Canada.
2. Work Permit
• On-Campus Work: Study permit holders can work on-campus without a separate work permit.
• Off-Campus Work: Eligible study permit holders can work up to 20 hours per week off-campus during regular sessions, full-time during breaks.
• Co-op / Internship Work Permit: If your program requires work experience (co-op/internship), you need to apply for a Co-op Work Permit along with your study permit.
3. Applying for Both (Study + Work)
• When applying for a study permit, you can include the option to work on/off-campus if you meet eligibility criteria.
• If your program includes mandatory work placement, apply for the Co-op Work Permit simultaneously.
4. Important Notes
• Proof of sufficient funds is mandatory for both permits.
• Work permits linked to study permits are usually valid for the duration of your studies.
• After graduation, you may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allowing you to work in Canada for up to 3 years.
