How to Get PR in New Zealand After PG Diploma?
Step 1: Complete an Eligible PG Diploma
• Make sure your Postgraduate Diploma is recognized in New Zealand.
• It should usually be a Level 8 qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
Step 2: Apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
• After completing your PG Diploma, you can apply for a Post-Study Work Visa.
• This visa lets you work full-time for any employer in New Zealand for 1 to 3 years, depending on your course and where you studied.
Step 3: Find a Skilled Job
• During your Post-Study Work Visa period, find a skilled job (related to your field of study if possible).
• Jobs on New Zealand’s Green List (shortage occupations) are especially valuable.
Step 4: Apply for Residency
You can apply for PR through one of these pathways:
1. Skilled Migrant Category (SMC):
• You must meet the points system (based on age, qualifications, work experience, job offer, etc.).
• Your job must meet the salary and skill level requirements.
• A high-paying, skilled job gives you a better chance.
2. Green List Residency Pathway:
• If your job is listed on the Green List, you may qualify for direct-to-residence or work-to-residence visas.
• Some jobs allow you to apply for PR immediately after starting work!
3. Other Pathways:
• If you work in health, education, engineering, or tech fields, there are special fast-track options.
Important Things to Remember:
• Good English language skills are required (sometimes an IELTS score is needed).
• You must have a full-time permanent or long-term job offer in New Zealand.
• You should apply for PR before your work visa expires.
Summary:
• Finish a recognized PG Diploma → Get Post-Study Work Visa → Find Skilled Job → Apply for PR under SMC or Green List.
