How do foreign YouTubers get LA work visas?
YouTubers and other online content creators from outside the United States usually move to Los Angeles on a work visa that allows them to earn income from their creative activities. The most common option is the O 1 visa for individuals with extraordinary ability in arts, entertainment, or media.
To qualify for an O 1 visa, a YouTuber must show a high level of achievement in their field, such as a large following, media coverage, industry awards, significant brand collaborations, or evidence of strong influence and impact. They must also have a US based agent, manager, or company act as their petitioner to file the visa application with US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Some YouTubers may also use other visa categories:
• P 1B visa for members of internationally recognized entertainment groups.
• H 1B visa if they take a specialized role with a US media or production company.
• Investor visas (E 2) if they invest in a US business and meet treaty country requirements.
Once in the US, they can legally work on content creation, brand partnerships, and other media related activities under the terms of their visa.
