I hold a UK student visa. After my studies, is it possible to switch to a work visa easily?

Switch from UK student visa to work visa

Yes, you can switch from a UK Student visa (Tier 4) to a Skilled Worker visa after your studies, and the process is relatively straightforward if you meet the requirements.

Key Requirements:

Job Offer: You must have a job offer from a UK employer licensed to sponsor Skilled Worker visas.

Eligible Job: Your job must be on the Skilled Occupations list and meet salary requirements (£26,200 per year or £10.75 per hour, or £20,960 if you're a new graduate).

English Proficiency: Your UK degree usually satisfies this requirement.

Application Process:

1. Apply for the Skilled Worker visa before your Student visa expires.

2. You can apply from within the UK (no need to leave).

3. If approved, you can work and stay in the UK under the Skilled Worker route, which can lead to permanent residency (ILR) after 5 years.

If you don’t secure a job immediately, you may be eligible for the Graduate visa (Post-Study Work Visa), which allows you to stay in the UK for 2 years (or 3 for PhD graduates) to look for work.
