Will UK Change Post-Study Work Visas in January 2024?
As of February 2025, the UK has implemented several changes to its Post-Study Work (PSW) visa policies:
1. Dependants Restriction: Effective January 2024, only postgraduate research students (e.g., PhD candidates) are permitted to bring dependants to the UK. Students enrolled in other postgraduate programs are no longer allowed to bring family members.
2. Minimum Salary Threshold Increase: In April 2024, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa increased from £26,200 to £38,700. This change affects international graduates seeking to switch from a PSW visa to a Skilled Worker visa, as they must secure employment meeting the new salary threshold.
These policy adjustments aim to manage immigration levels and address concerns about over-reliance on international students and their dependants. It's essential for current and prospective students to stay informed about these changes, as they directly impact post-study work opportunities and the ability to bring family members to the UK.
