NEW DELHI: In a significant setback for many aspiring students, New Zealand’s visa rejection rate for Indian students has reached unprecedented levels. According to a report by the country’s public broadcaster, the rejection rate for study visas from India rose from 28% in 2022 to a staggering 40% in 2023.
This surge in visa denials has caused concern among Indian students and educational institutions alike. The higher rejection rate is seen as a major barrier for students seeking higher education opportunities in New Zealand, potentially impacting enrollment numbers and university revenues.
The report also highlighted that nearly half of the visa applications from Indian students were rejected in the first quarter of 2024. This trend has left both students and universities anxious about future prospects and the potential long-term effects on international education in New Zealand.
