Starting October 1, 2024, Australia will offer up to 1,000 Work and Holiday visas (Subclass 462) annually to Indian citizens as part of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA). This announcement was made by India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, during his recent visit to Australia. He emphasized that this initiative is a significant move towards enhancing people-to-people connections and deepening cultural ties between the two nations​.

The Work and Holiday visa allows Indian nationals aged 18 to 30 to work and explore Australia for up to one year. To be eligible, applicants must meet specific requirements, including proof of sufficient funds for their initial stay, meeting health and character standards, and demonstrating English language proficiency​.
