Italy's Biometric Rule Raises Schengen Visa Costs

Starting January 11, 2025, Italy will require all applicants for both short-term (Schengen) and long-term national visas to provide biometric data, including fingerprints, during their application process. This measure aims to enhance security and streamline visa processing.

• Applicability: The fingerprinting requirement applies to all visa applicants, including those seeking short-term (Type C) and long-term (Type D) visas for purposes such as employment, study, family reunification, and investment.
• Procedure: Applicants must appear in person at the nearest Italian embassy or consulate to provide their biometric data. This data will be valid for 59 months, eliminating the need for repeat fingerprinting in subsequent applications within this period.
• Exemptions: Children under 12 years old, individuals physically unable to provide fingerprints, and government officials traveling on official duties are exempt from this requirement.
