Abu Dhabi, UAE – UAE authorities have arrested over 6,000 expatriates for violating visa regulations after the conclusion of a nationwide amnesty program designed to help individuals regularize their legal status.
The amnesty initiative, which allowed foreign nationals to rectify their residency status without facing penalties, fines, or legal repercussions, ended recently. Following its expiration, immigration officials launched an extensive crackdown on individuals who failed to take advantage of the program.
According to officials, the arrested individuals were found guilty of various violations, including overstaying visas, working without valid permits, and using fraudulent documentation to remain in the country. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against offenders, which could include fines, deportation, and potential re-entry bans.
"The amnesty period was an opportunity for all residents to correct their legal status without facing any consequences. Those who failed to comply will now face the full extent of the law," said a spokesperson for the Ministry.
The UAE, home to a diverse expatriate population, has consistently enforced strict immigration regulations to maintain legal order and national security. Authorities have urged all residents and visitors to ensure they adhere to visa requirements and legal protocols to avoid penalties.
This development underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining a regulated and lawful environment, following its temporary leniency during the amnesty period.
