The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City has launched a program to help reduce waiting times for certain first-time B1/B2 visitor visa applicants from Mexico. Here’s how it works:
- Starting from March 20, 2024, new appointment slots are being made available at no extra charge for first-time Mexican visitor visa applicants who originally had appointments scheduled for 2025 or later.
- Eligible applicants will receive emails from [email protected] informing them of the option to reschedule their appointments to an earlier date.
- Applicants are advised to regularly check the appointment system if immediate availability isn’t shown, as more appointment dates will be added throughout the year.
This initiative comes after the U.S. Embassy and its nine consulates in Mexico issued a record 2.3 million visas in 2023. The goal of the new program is to significantly reduce wait times for hundreds of thousands of applicants, making travel to the U.S. more accessible for Mexican nationals. Consulate officials see this as part of their commitment to making visa interview appointments more efficient and facilitating legitimate travel for purposes such as work, study, and leisure.
