Canadian Visa Help: Do You Need an Immigration Representative?

There are two main options for getting Canadian visa representatives:

  1. Authorized Paid Representatives: These are the only ones legally allowed to charge a fee for assisting with your Canadian visa application. Here's who qualifies:
  • Lawyers and paralegals:  They must be members in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society.
  • Immigration consultants:  They must be members of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) [college immig consultants ON Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council cicc.ca].
  • Notaries (Quebec only):  Must be members in good standing of the Chambre des notaires du Québec.

Finding Authorized Representatives:

  • College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC): Search the CICC's online directory to find consultants by location and field of expertise [college immig consultants ON Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council cicc.ca]
  • Canadian Bar Association: Their website allows you to search for lawyers by location and area of practice, though immigration law might not be a specific category Canadian Bar Association:  https://www.cba.org/Home
    1. Unpaid Representatives (Free Help): Anyone can be an unpaid representative for your Canadian visa application, as long as they don't charge you. This could be a friend, family member, or someone else familiar with the process. However, they cannot provide legal advice.
