Eligibility for Permanent Residence Permit:

  • Criteria for Eligibility for Permanent Residence Permit 20 years:

    If you hold an Occupation Permit or Residence Permit as a Retired non-citizen, you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit valid for 20 years if you meet the following conditions:

    1. Investor: You should have held an Occupation Permit as an Investor for at least 3 years before applying for the Permanent Residence Permit. During that time, you must have had a minimum annual gross income of at least MUR 15 million for 3 years or an aggregate turnover of MUR 45 million for any consecutive 3-year period.
    2. Professional: You should have held an Occupation Permit as a Professional for at least 3 years before applying for the Permanent Residence Permit. During that time, your basic monthly salary should have been at least MUR 150,000 for 3 consecutive years.
    3. Self-Employed: You should have held an Occupation Permit as Self-Employed for at least 3 years before applying for the Permanent Residence Permit. During that time, your annual business income should have been at least MUR 3 million for 3 consecutive years.
    4. Retired Non-Citizen: You should have held a Residence Permit as a Retired non-citizen for at least 3 years before applying for the Permanent Residence Permit. Additionally, during the 3-year period before the application, you should have transferred at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency.
    5. Investment: You can also qualify by investing at least USD 375,000 in a qualifying business activity.
  • Criteria for Eligibility for Permanent Residence Permit for holders of Occupation Permit/Residence Permit Holder for at least 3 years immediately before 01 September 2020:

    A non-citizen who has held an Occupation permit or Residence permit as a Retired non-citizen for a minimum of 3 years immediately prior to September 1, 2020, and meets the specified conditions, may apply for permanent resident status for a period of 20 years. The conditions for each category are as follows:

    1. Investor: Individuals who held an Occupation Permit as an Investor for at least 3 years before September 1, 2020, must have achieved a cumulative turnover of at least MUR 12 million during the 3 years leading up to the application.
    2. Self-Employed: Individuals who held an Occupation Permit as Self-Employed for at least 3 years before September 1, 2020, must have generated a cumulative business income of at least MUR 2.4 million during the 3 years preceding the application.
    3. Professional: For individuals who held an Occupation Permit as a Professional for at least 3 years before September 1, 2020: a) In the information and communication technologies (ICT) sector and business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 30,000 must have been earned during the 3 years prior to the application. b) In any other sector, a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 60,000 must have been earned during the 3 years prior to the application.
    4. Retired Non-Citizen: Individuals who held a Residence Permit as a Retired non-citizen for at least 3 years before September 1, 2020, must fulfill one of the following requirements: a) Make a monthly transfer of at least USD 1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency over the 3-year period. or b) Achieve a cumulative transfer of at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency over the 3-year period.

Note: By meeting these criteria, eligible non-citizens can apply for the status of permanent resident in Mauritius for a period of 20 years.

  • Criteria for Eligibility for Permanent Residence Permit 10 years:

    1. Mauritian Diaspora: A non-citizen who is a member of the Mauritian Diaspora under the Mauritian Diaspora Scheme is eligible to apply for a 10-year Permanent Residence Permit. This category is specifically designed for individuals who have Mauritian ancestry or familial connections to Mauritius but are not citizens of the country.

    Note:

    • Holders of a Permanent Residence Permit must continue to meet the conditions and criteria outlined in the Economic Development Board Act and/or the requirements of section 11 of the Immigration Act 2022. They must also comply with any additional conditions specified in the approval letter received.
    • The authorities have the right to cancel a Permanent Residence Permit at any time, without providing a reason, if the holder no longer meets the criteria and conditions of the permit or has violated any laws of Mauritius. Additionally, if false or misleading information was provided during the application process, the permit may also be cancelled.

    It is essential for Permanent Residence Permit holders to adhere to the specified requirements and maintain their eligibility throughout the validity period of their permit. Any violation or failure to meet the conditions may result in the cancellation of the permit.

  • Important Notes About Residence Permit:

    Original passport is required. Copies of birth and marriage certificates are accepted if they are certified as true copies. Certification can be done by diplomatic missions, attorneys, or notaries. If the copies are not in English or French, an official translation is needed.To obtain a medical certificate in Mauritius, you need to undergo HIV and Hepatitis B tests, as well as a chest X-ray. These tests can be conducted at any private medical laboratory, clinic, or hospital in Mauritius. The test results and chest X-ray report should be submitted. Children under 12 years old are exempt from the tests and X-ray, but they need to provide a medical certificate.
