GCC, EU Discuss Schengen Visa Exemption

During a recent meeting in Brussels, officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) explored the idea of exempting GCC citizens from needing Schengen visas for entry into EU nations.

The gathering involved Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, the GCC’s secretary-general, and Luigi Di Maio, the EU’s special representative for the Gulf region. They concentrated on strengthening cooperation and bilateral relations between the GCC and EU, given their strategic partnership.

Both Al Budaiwi and Di Maio underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the two regions to effectively address ongoing challenges. The discussions hint at a potential advancement in visa policies that could simplify travel for GCC citizens visiting EU countries by introducing a Schengen visa waiver program.
