Australia Tightens Student Visa Rules Amid Record High Migration

Australia is tightening visa regulations for foreign students this week, aligning with a surge in migration that is expected to strain an already tight rental market.

Effective this Saturday, stricter English language requirements will be in place for student and graduate visas. Additionally, the government gains the authority to suspend educational institutions from recruiting international students if they repeatedly violate regulations.

Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil stated, “The measures implemented this weekend will continue to decrease migration levels while fulfilling our commitments outlined in the migration strategy to address the shortcomings of the existing system.”

A new “genuine student test” will be introduced to deter international students primarily seeking employment opportunities in Australia. Furthermore, “no further stay” conditions will be more strictly enforced on visitor visas.

These updates signify a focused effort by Australia to refine its visa processes and manage migration influxes effectively.
