SpoilerVisitor Visa in Canada Expiring? How to Extend Your Stay (New Application vs. Renewal)
There isn't technically a process to "renew" a visitor visa from within Canada. However, you can apply for a new visitor visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), while you're already in Canada, under certain conditions:
- Valid Status:You can only apply for a new TRV if your current visitor visa or status in Canada is still valid.
- Study or Work Permit:This applies specifically if you also hold a valid study permit or work permit in Canada.
Here's a breakdown of the scenarios:
- Valid Visitor Visa:If your visitor visa is still valid, you can apply for a new one before it expires. This can be helpful if you want to extend your stay in Canada beyond the initial authorized period.
- Expired Visitor Visa with Valid Study/Work Permit:Even if your visitor visa itself has expired, you can still apply for a new one as long as your study or work permit is valid. This allows you to travel outside Canada and return for the duration of your permit.
