Step-by-step guide

Let us walk you through the process

  • When applying for a visa to South Africa, determine the purpose of your visit, such as tourism, business, study, or work, to select the appropriate visa category.
  • Visit the official website of the South African Department of Home Affairs or consult the nearest South African embassy or consulate for comprehensive information on visa categories, requirements, and application procedures.
  • Review the specific eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and financial obligations for the chosen visa type to ensure a successful visa application for South Africa.

Once you are ready to apply, you can download the visa application form , complete it, print the complete form and bring it with you to the Visa Application Centre (together with the documents required for the Visa category chosen) for submission.

Once you have filled your visa form, you can drop off at the visa application center with no need to book an appointment. Please check opening hours.

After submitting your application, you must pay the visa application fee . Payment can be made at the time of your appointment if you download and print the form to bring to the Visa Application Centre.

If you cannot readily access email or would like more detailed monitoring information, you may also be able to receive updates via SMS on your phone. You can also check the status of your visa application online. Use the Reference Number and your last name found on the invoice/receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre to access this service.

After a decision has been made on your visa application, you may collect your passport from the Visa Application Centre or have it returned to you by courier for an additional charge.
Bring the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre and a form of government-issued identification when collecting your passport in person. If permitted, you may be able to dispatch a representative to collect your passport; they must present a letter of authorization signed by you, the Visa Application Centre receipt, and their government identification.

This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing and other recreational activities. When applying for a visitor visa to South Africa from India, it’s important to ensure you have all the necessary documents to support your application. Here is a checklist of documents commonly required for a South African visitor visa application:

Holiday /Tourist Visa:

  1. Passport, (valid for at least 30 days after the intended stay/departure date from South Africa; at least Two unused/blank visa pages)
  2. Application form-11 (DHA-84) must be signed by the applicant and signature should match the signature on the passport.
  3. FOR MINOR APPLICANTS (BELOW 18) – In application form parents need to sign instead of minor applicant.
  4. Proof of funds (Last 03 month’s bank statement signed and stamped by the bank with a balance South African Currency R 3000 or equivalent in INR for Delhi and Mumbai) Required original Indian bank statement on bank letterhead with stamp and signature and no Passbook, e-statements, Net banking copies will be accepted
  5. Proof of hotel booking, (verifiable) stating the name, passport number of applicant(s) and duration of visit, physical address, as well as contact details of the hotel as well as authorized signature’s name, designation and signature.
  6. Please note hotel bookings must be booked online or booked by South African host with stamp from south African hotel/company/ or travel agency.
  7. NOC for leave from employer/ school/ university clearly mentioning the name, passport number of applicant(s) and duration of visit. Letter must have the physical address, as well as contact details of authorized signature’s name, designation and signature.
  8. A day-to-day itinerary/travel plan covering your stay in South Africa.

  17. If unabridged birth certificate is in local language than English translation affidavit must be produce along with local language unabridged birth certificate.

Applicant needs to provide bank statement of the person who will bear the expenses of the traveller and the covering / invitation letter should clearly mention the same, if the bank statement is from South Africa in that case stamp & signature from SA bank and SA police would require or if bank statement is from India then indian Bank stamp & signature would be required.
7. Incase Indian company is bearing the cost of the traveller in that case we would need company bank statement with bank stamp and signature. or if South African company is taking the responsibility of the traveller in that case south african company bank statement would be required with SA Police & SA Bank stamp and signature.
8. Letter of invitation from the South African organizers/hosts/companies stating the name, passport number of applicant as well as purpose and duration of visit. Letter must have the physical address, as well as contact details of the host and host’s/authorized signature’s name, designation and signature (Host ID copy attested by commissioner of OATHS needs to be submitted if required by SAHC).
9. Reference/introduction letter from Indian employer stating the name, passport number of applicant as well as purpose and duration of visit. Letter must have the physical address, as well as contact details of applicant & authorized signature’s name, designation and signature;

Spouse to join a spouse who is in South Africa on a work or study permit:
This category allows the spouse of an individual who is already in South Africa on a valid work or study permit to join them. The purpose is to enable family reunification by allowing the spouse to stay with their partner for the duration of their stay in South Africa.

Children to join parents who are in South Africa on work or study permits:
Similar to the spouse category, this category permits children to join their parents who are already in South Africa on valid work or study permits. It allows for family unity by enabling children to live with their parents during their stay in the country.
Fiancée/fiancé to join his or her partner with the intention of marrying within 90 days:
This category is designed for individuals who are engaged to a South African citizen or permanent resident and plan to marry within 90 days of their arrival in South Africa.
