Let us walk you through the process

  • First, determine your visa type and eligibility.
  • Check required documents, fees, and processing time.
  • Ensure your application follows visa rules; translate if not in English.

When you're ready to apply, download the visa form, fill it out, print it, and take it along with the necessary documents to the Visa Application Centre for submission.

  • After completing your visa form, schedule an appointment at a Visa Application Centre for fingerprint and photo capture, which is called 'biometric information.'
  • Once you've scheduled your appointment, you'll get an email confirming the appointment along with the appointment letter.
  • If you're applying as part of a family or group, each member must book their own individual appointment.

  • After submitting your application, you'll need to pay the visa application fee. If you download and print the form to bring to the Visa Application Centre, you can make the payment during your appointment.
  • You'll pay the visa fee at the Visa Application Centre.

  • You'll get an email notification once your decision is back at the Visa Application Centre. If you prefer SMS updates or don't have easy email access, check if this option is offered at the Visa Application Centre you're going to.
  • Additionally, you can track your visa application status online. Use the Reference Number from your invoice or receipt provided by the Visa Application Centre, along with your last name, to access this service.

After your visa decision:

  1. Pickup Options:
    • Collect at Visa Application Centre (VAC).
    • Choose courier delivery if previously selected.
  2. Note:
    • Uncollected passports sent to Malta High Commission after 30 days.
  3. Third-Party Collection Allowed for:
    • Immediate Family.
    • Authorized persons for Diplomatic passport holders.
    • Company representatives (with authorization, company ID).

  • Copy of Government ID.
  • Original ICR.
  • Authorization Letter from applicant.

  1. Visa Application Form:
    • Complete and sign the form with accurate information.
  2. Passport:
    • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay in Malta.
    • Include photocopies of the first page and any previous Schengen visas if you have them.
  3. Passport Photos:
    • Provide recent passport-sized photos, usually two, following the specifications.
  4. Letter of Acceptance:
    • Include the original letter of acceptance from your Maltese educational institution. It should detail:
      • Course information (dates, cost, duration, title).
      • Weekly class hours and credits.
      • Confirmation of your acceptance.
      • Monthly rent and accommodation details if provided by the institution.
  5. Course Details:
    • Include a copy of your course timetable showing your lessons each month.
  6. Proof of Accommodation:
    • Show where you’ll stay. You can provide:
      • A confirmed hotel booking.
      • A ‘Declaration of Proof’ signed by your host with a copy of their Malta ID Card or Passport. Make sure these documents are original and witnessed by a Maltese Legal Professional. If your institution provides accommodation, this step isn’t needed.
  7. Financial Proof:
    • Prove you have enough funds to cover tuition and living expenses during your studies. If sponsored by parents or a guardian, add a notarized declaration.
    • Include:
      • A bank letter confirming your balance (signed and stamped).
      • Your last 6 months’ original bank statements.
      • Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the past 3 years with the CPC acknowledgment (verified).
  8. Health Insurance:
    • Get overseas health insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros for the entire stay in Malta, covering medical emergencies, accidents, and repatriation.
  9. Proof of Payment:
    • Provide evidence of payments made to your educational institution, including receipts or bank transfer records.
  10. Educational Documents: – Include your original educational certificates, attested and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs in India. Don’t forget transcripts and diplomas.
  11. Language Proficiency: – If required, submit proof of your language proficiency, such as IELTS or TOEFL scores.
  12. Police Clearance Certificate: – Obtain a police clearance certificate from your home country and any other place where you’ve lived for more than six months in the last ten years.
  13. Declaration of Intent: – Write a letter outlining your study plans, why you’ve chosen Malta, and your future goals after completing your course.
  14. Visa Fee: – Pay the required visa processing fee.
  15. Travel Itinerary: – Present a confirmed travel plan, including return flights if your course lasts less than 91 days. You might be asked for your return ticket later.
  16. Passport Copies: – Include photocopies of all pages of your current passport.

Important Notes:

  • You must have travel insurance for all Schengen countries. If you haven’t bought it yet, click here.
  • Also, make sure you have as many photocopies of your documents as there are applicants. For example, if there are 4 applicants, you should have 4 copies of the sponsorship letter and other documents.
  • Write the name of the applicant and their passport number on each draft (one draft per applicant).
  • When visiting multiple Schengen countries, note and emphasize transfer and accommodation details in your itinerary. Also, highlight these specifics, along with your name and passport number, on all documents:
  • Itinerary: Departure, arrival, hotel check-in, and check-out dates.
  • Insurance: Date of birth, coverage duration, and amount.

  2. Complete the Visa Application Form: Download and complete the visa application form. Fill out all the required fields accurately.
  3. Gather Required Documents: Please note that these requirements may vary depending on your specific circumstances and the type of study program: Passport, Visa Application Form, Passport-size photographs, Proof of Admission, Financial Proof, Health Insurance, Police Clearance Certificate.
  4. Pay Visa Fees: Pay the required visa fees, which can also vary depending on the type of visa and your nationality. Check with the Embassy or Consulate for the latest fee information and payment methods.
  5. Submit Your Application: Submit your visa application along with all the required documents to the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Malta or Visa application centre in India. You may need to schedule an appointment in advance.
  6. Attend an Interview: In some cases, you might be required to attend an interview at the Embassy or Consulate.
  7. Wait for Processing: The processing time for a Malta study visa can vary, so apply well in advance of your intended travel date.
  8. Receive Your Visa: If your application is approved, you will receive a visa sticker in your passport.

Important notes:

  • If your course in Malta is longer than 90 days, except for certain recognized higher-education programs, you can get a D-visa for up to 365 days from when you first entered the Schengen area.
  • If you need to stay longer, contact CVU between 30 to 21 days before your visa expires with all necessary documents, like attendance and performance proof.
  • If your course goes beyond 365 days and your visa’s already expired, you must apply for a residence permit through the IMA Expatriates Do this 30 to 21 days before your visa ends and provide the required documents, including performance and attendance proof.
  • For higher-education courses over 90 days, apply for a residence permit before your initial stay authorization expires.
