  • What Is Schengen Visa?

The Schengen Visa is a type of visa that allows travelers to visit and travel within the Schengen Area, which is a group of 29 European countries that have abolished passport and other types of border control at their mutual borders. This means that a person with a Schengen Visa can move freely between these countries without having to go through immigration checks at the border.
To obtain a Schengen Visa, applicants need to apply at the embassy or consulate of the country they intend to visit or spend most of their time in. The visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and can be used for tourism, business, or other purposes. However, the visa does not grant the holder the right to work or study in the Schengen Area.

  • Here Are The Schengen Area Countries As Of March 2024:

VISA APPLICATION GUIDELINES:

The process for applying for Germany visitor visa from Bangladesh typically involves the following steps:

  1. Identify the Visa Type:
    • Determine the specific type of Schengen visa you need for your visit to Germany (e.g., tourist, business, family reunion). Check the requirements, estimated processing time, and fees associated with the chosen visa category.
  2. Prepare Translations:
    • Ensure that all your supporting documents are in German or English. If they are not, get them translated before applying.
  3. Embassy Responsibilities:
    • Note that the German Embassy in Dhaka handles visa applications for Estonia as well. The process and requirements are the same for both countries.
  4. Online Application:
    • Complete the visa application form online. Once finished, print the form, sign it, and bring it to the Visa Application Centre during your scheduled appointment.
  5. Appointment Booking:
    • Schedule an appointment to provide biometric information (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre. Each member of a family or group should have a separate appointment.
  6. Fee Payment:
    • Pay the required visa fee, VFS service charge, and any optional service fees at the Visa Application Centre. Visa fees must be paid in cash as per embassy instructions.
  7. Visit Visa Application Centre:
    • Submit the filled visa application form and all necessary documents at the Visa Application Centre. Familiarize yourself with the application process at the Centre.
  8. Track Application:
    • You will receive an email notification when your visa decision is back at the Visa Application Centre. Optionally, you can opt for the SMS service for alerts to your registered mobile number. Track your visa status online using the Reference Number from the invoice/receipt and your last name.
  9. Collect Your Passport:
    • Once your visa decision is made, collect your documents from the Visa Application Centre. When picking up your passport, bring the following:
      • Original ICR or printed e-ICR PDF and the email issued during submission. Surrender the Acknowledgment slip portion to VFS during collection.
      • Photocopy of your passport.
      • If someone else is collecting on your behalf, provide an authorization letter with your signature.
      • Government ID proof of the representative collecting the passport.

Processing Time:

  • The German Embassy typically takes about 15 days to process visa applications, and this time may vary. It’s recommended to apply well in advance but not more than six months before your planned trip (nine months for seamen).
  • Status updates during processing are not given. Your passport has to stay with the Embassy throughout the process. If you need your passport back, you can request it in writing, but this will cancel your visa application, and the passport will be returned via VFS Global within two working days.
  • Keep in mind that some nationals may have special rules, requiring a personal visit to the Embassy and potentially extending the processing time.

Important notes:

  • You must have travel insurance for all Schengen countries. Click here if you haven’t purchased it yet.
  • Accepted medical insurance must meet two conditions: it should be valid for the entire visa duration and cover all Schengen countries, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros and repatriation.
  • Do not use false documents, as this will result in visa denial and other consequences.
  • The German Embassy in Dhaka may request additional documents or an interview.
  • Ensure your application is complete with all necessary documents to avoid rejection.
