The U.S. Embassy in India has canceled approximately 2,000 visa appointments due to fraudulent activities involving the misuse of its scheduling system. An internal investigation revealed that unauthorized agents and automated bots exploited the system to secure these appointments, violating official policies. Consequently, the embassy has suspended the scheduling privileges of the associated accounts.

Further investigations uncovered that certain agents submitted forged documents, including bank statements and employment records, to obtain visas for applicants. In response, Delhi Police registered a case against several visa and passport agents following the U.S. Embassy's complaint.

This crackdown is part of the U.S. Embassy's broader effort to maintain the integrity of its consular services and ensure fair access to visa appointments for genuine applicants. The embassy has emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards fraud and continues to monitor and address any suspicious activities.

For individuals affected by these cancellations, the embassy advises rebooking through official channels and refraining from using unauthorized agents to avoid complications in the visa application process.
