New Zealand has launched a new Business Investor Work Visa, creating a structured pathway for global investors to secure residency while contributing to the country’s economic growth. Applications for the visa are now open, targeting experienced business professionals who are ready to invest in and actively manage established New Zealand companies.

Under the new program, applicants must invest NZD 1 million or NZD 2 million into a business that has been operating for at least five years. The NZD 1 million route requires three years of business operation before applying for residency, while the NZD 2 million “fast-track” allows investors to apply within 12 months—although a total of three years of active involvement is still required before permanent residency conditions are met.

The visa is valid for up to four years and allows applicants to include their partner and dependent children. To qualify, candidates must meet strict criteria, including proven business experience, minimum reserve funds of NZD 500,000, language requirements, and being aged 55 or below.

New Zealand officials say the initiative is designed to attract high-value investment, support job creation, and strengthen local businesses. The program replaces previous entrepreneurship pathways and aims to draw investors who can contribute long-term stability and economic growth.
