A 38-year-old doctor from Andhra Pradesh died by suicide in Hyderabad after her US visa application was rejected, police confirmed. The victim, identified as Rohini, was found dead in her apartment in Padma Rao Nagar on Friday after family members broke open the door when she failed to respond to calls.
According to police, a suicide note recovered from the scene indicated that she had been battling depression and was deeply distressed over her US visa refusal. Rohini, who completed her MBBS in Kyrgyzstan, had been preparing for further medical training in the United States and was reportedly waiting for approval of her J-1 visa.
Her mother told investigators that Rohini had been dedicated to her career and believed that specializing in the US would give her better professional opportunities and manageable work conditions compared to India. She had been living alone and frequently visited nearby libraries as part of her medical preparation.
Police said she had recently shown signs of mental strain and isolation. The body has been shifted for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have urged individuals facing emotional distress to seek timely mental health support, highlighting the increasing pressure faced by professionals pursuing opportunities abroad
