A 22-year-old resident of Ambaliyasan in Mehsana district was arrested at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport after being deported from Dubai for attempting to travel to Canada on a forged visa.
According to officials, the man had handed over his passport to a local intermediary, who, along with an agent, allegedly replaced the original Canadian visa with a counterfeit sticker. The forgery was detected when airline authorities in Dubai alerted the Bureau of Immigration.
The accused told police he believed his documents were genuine, claiming he had followed the agents’ instructions, including undergoing biometric verification at the VFS centre in Agora Mall, Ahmedabad.
An FIR has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for forgery, fraudulent use of documents, and abetment, along with Section 12(1)(b) of the Passport Act, 1967, for providing false information. Two other individuals accused of facilitating the fake visa have also been named in the case.
Police have urged citizens to verify travel documents through authorised channels to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
