A 19-year-old youth from a village in Barnala district tragically took his own life on Sunday after facing multiple rejections of his Canadian visa applications. Despite having family ties in Canada, including a sister and extended relatives, the young man had been attempting to migrate for over a year but encountered consistent setbacks.

According to Station House Officer Gurminder Singh, the youth had been experiencing depression due to the continuous visa denials. On the day of the incident, while his mother and grandmother were in another room, he secluded himself in a separate room and shot himself. The family discovered the tragedy shortly thereafter.

Following a post-mortem examination, the body was returned to the family. The police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

This heartbreaking incident underscores the profound impact that prolonged visa processing times and repeated rejections can have on individuals, especially the youth, who aspire to build a future abroad. It highlights the need for timely and transparent visa application processes to prevent such tragedies.
