A man from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, was allegedly cheated out of ₹25 lakh by a consultancy that promised to secure a Canadian permanent residency (PR) visa for his daughter. The victim had approached Umiya Overseas Consultancy after his son's successful student visa application through the same company. The consultants assured him of a job offer and a visa but instead presented fake documents, including a forged Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), while repeatedly demanding more money.
After suspecting foul play, the man confronted the consultants, who continued to make false promises. When no progress was made, he decided to report the incident to the authorities, leading to a police investigation and a formal complaint being filed against the consultancy. The case highlights the risks associated with fraudulent visa agents and underscores the importance of verifying the legitimacy of such services.
The incident has brought attention to the growing number of visa-related scams targeting hopeful immigrants, especially in regions where demand for overseas education and work opportunities is high. The authorities are now investigating the consultancy operators, Ankit Patel and Vishal Patel, who have been accused of cheating and forgery in connection with this case.
