In a major push to combat visa fraud and promote safe migration, the British High Commission has unveiled a Punjabi and English WhatsApp chatbot as part of its ongoing Visa Fraud Ton Bacho campaign. The initiative aims to make official UK visa guidance more accessible to Punjabi-speaking communities and reduce the risk of exploitation by unscrupulous agents.

The chatbot, available on +91 70652 51380, offers verified information on UK visa processes, warning signs of fraud, and the dangers of irregular migration. A new QR code has been introduced to make access quick and user-friendly.

Launched earlier this year, the campaign has now expanded its reach across Punjab and Haryana through partnerships with local authorities, community organisations, and social media outreach. Ground-level activities include awareness drives in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh, with special events such as a photo exhibition at Chandigarh’s Elante Mall and an interactive session at the Sector 17 underpass.

Daniel Sherry, Political Counsellor at the British High Commission, said the initiative was designed to “make the campaign more accessible” and protect vulnerable people from fraudulent schemes. Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission, thanked community partners for their support, reaffirming the mission’s focus on safeguarding genuine travellers.

With Indians accounting for nearly one in four UK visas worldwide, officials warn that false promises of visa-free work, waived English requirements, or guaranteed jobs often lead to financial loss and legal consequences. Convictions for visa fraud can carry penalties including a 10-year ban on entry to the UK.

Authorities urge applicants to rely solely on official government resources, avoid unverified agents, and use tools like the chatbot to stay informed and protected.
