A couple operating multiple immigration consultancy firms in Chandigarh has been arrested for allegedly defrauding hundreds of individuals of nearly ₹4 crore under the pretext of sending them abroad.
Anubhav Garg (25) and his 19-year-old wife Akanksha were apprehended in Patiala after police traced their location following multiple raids. The couple had been on the run after shutting down their offices in Sector-17, Chandigarh, and fleeing to Patiala.
According to police officials, the duo operated three immigration firms—World Walk Immigration, Asian Man Power, and White Horse—from Sector-17. Despite several FIRs being registered against them, the couple allegedly continued to deceive individuals until their arrest.
Authorities have confirmed that transactions worth several crores were traced to the couple’s bank accounts. The total fraud amount is estimated to be around ₹4 crore, though this figure could rise as more complaints are being verified.
The couple reportedly lured individuals from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and other states with promises of overseas opportunities. Once the money was collected, they either delayed or stopped responding to the victims, leaving many without the services they had paid for.
On Saturday, both were produced before a local court. While Anubhav was remanded in two-day police custody, Akanksha was sent to judicial custody.
Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and they anticipate more victims to come forward as the case develops.
