A Chandigarh-based immigration consultant has been booked for allegedly duping multiple families from West Bengal of ₹14.25 lakh under the pretext of providing overseas job visas.

According to police, the accused, Rahit Gupta, runs an immigration consultancy under the name C2A Group at SCO 230–231, 4th Floor, Sector 34-A, Chandigarh. A complaint was lodged by Sudhir Roy, a resident of Bhabanipur village in Nadia district, West Bengal.

Roy stated that he and his uncle had introduced several families from their locality to Gupta, who promised to arrange foreign employment. The victims reportedly paid the consultant in two installments—₹7.29 lakh on August 12, 2024, and ₹6.96 lakh on September 19, 2024. However, the visas later provided turned out to be fake.

When confronted, Gupta allegedly refused to return the money and even harassed the complainant. After repeated attempts to recover the funds failed, Roy lodged a complaint at Hanskhali Police Station, Nadia, where a Zero FIR was registered and later transferred to Chandigarh’s Sector 34 Police Station.

Police have booked Gupta under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Sections 318(2) & 318(4): Forgery and possession of forged documents
  • Sections 336(2), 336(3) & 338: Acts endangering personal safety
  • Section 340(2): Wrongful confinement

Investigations are ongoing, and further victims may come forward as police probe the case.

This incident adds to the growing list of immigration frauds reported across Chandigarh and Punjab, where several consultancy firms have been booked in recent months for cheating aspirants of lakhs of rupees by promising fake work and study visas.
