China will launch a new K Visa on October 1, 2025, aimed at attracting young professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from around the world. Unlike traditional work visas, the K Visa does not require applicants to have a pre-existing job offer in China.
The visa targets foreign nationals aged 18 to 45 who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher or are actively engaged in STEM research. Applicants will be eligible for multiple entries and can pursue a range of activities, including research, education, entrepreneurship, and business.
The K Visa is positioned as a complement to China’s existing R Visa, which targets top-tier global experts. By lowering barriers for younger talent, the program seeks to accelerate innovation in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing.
Officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with China’s broader goal of strengthening its global competitiveness and nurturing a pipeline of skilled talent amid tightening immigration policies in other countries. Indian STEM graduates are expected to be eligible, provided they meet the stated requirements.
The program also includes streamlined support through China’s Foreign Ministry and other relevant agencies to facilitate residence, visa extensions, and entrepreneurial activities for K Visa holders.
