A 28-year-old Chinese national was apprehended by Gurugram Police on Tuesday for illegally residing in India without valid travel documents. The arrest took place in the Khandsa area, following a tip-off regarding a foreigner allegedly overstaying in the country.

According to officials, the foreign national had been living in a rented house in Gurugram since March 2025. Upon verification, it was found that his visa had expired, and he did not possess any valid travel documents. Prior to shifting to Gurugram, the man had reportedly lived in Delhi’s Chhatarpur area for nearly two years.

A case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Foreigners Act, and he is currently in police custody. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of his extended stay, including whether he received assistance from local individuals or any organized networks.

“We are verifying his background, travel history, and any possible links with other overstaying foreigners or agencies that facilitated his stay,” said a senior Gurugram police official.

The incident has raised concerns about lapses in tenant verification and the need for stricter enforcement of immigration norms. Police have reiterated their appeal to landlords and property owners to ensure proper documentation and verification of foreign nationals residing on their premises.

Further proceedings will be undertaken in consultation with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and relevant immigration authorities.
