Croatia has officially rolled out an updated Digital Nomad Visa, offering remote workers from outside the EU, EEA, and Switzerland the chance to live and work in the country for a fraction of the cost compared to many European destinations.
The programme, now allowing stays of up to 18 months with a one-time renewal, enables eligible applicants to remain in Croatia for a maximum of three years. To qualify, candidates must either demonstrate a monthly net income of €3,295 or hold savings of €39,540 for a 12-month stay. For an 18-month permit, proof of €59,310 in funds is required. An additional 10% income is needed for each accompanying family member.
Application fees range from €55 to €100, depending on whether the process is completed in Croatia or at a Croatian consulate abroad. Applicants must also arrange valid health insurance and submit proof of accommodation. Processing typically takes two to four weeks, though experts advise early preparation due to occasional bureaucratic delays.
A key attraction of the visa is its tax exemption on foreign-sourced income, provided no work is undertaken for Croatian companies. The permit also grants access to the Schengen Area, allowing seamless travel across most of Europe.
Authorities say the visa aims to position Croatia as a competitive hub for the global remote workforce, capitalising on its Adriatic coastline, historic cities, and relatively low cost of living. Early applicants have praised the flexibility of the scheme, though some caution that navigating local administration may require persistence.
With this move, Croatia joins the growing list of countries tapping into the digital nomad economy, offering professionals not just a place to work, but an opportunity to experience the country’s rich culture and scenic landscapes without frequent visa runs.
