In a major step towards enhancing travel convenience and bilateral cooperation, the Government of India has officially launched the e-Visa facility for Kuwaiti nationals, effective July 14, 2025. The initiative allows Kuwaiti citizens to apply online for multiple categories of Indian visas, including long-term tourist visas valid for up to five years.

According to the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, the new e-Visa system enables applicants to complete the entire process digitally, eliminating the need to visit visa centers or submit physical documents. The move is expected to significantly ease the visa process for thousands of travelers annually and foster closer ties between the two nations.

Five Visa Categories Available Online

Kuwaiti nationals can now apply for the following visa categories via the official Indian e-Visa portal:

  • Tourist Visa (including long-term, up to 5 years)
  • Business Visa
  • Medical Visa
  • Medical Attendant Visa
  • Conference Visa
  • AYUSH/Wellness Visa (for traditional Indian therapies like Ayurveda and yoga)

The tourist visa offers multiple entries with a maximum stay of 180 days per visit. The fee for the five-year tourist e-Visa is set at USD 80, payable online through secure payment gateways.

Simplified Process and Wider Access

The e-Visa is valid at 32 designated airports and 5 seaports across India. Applicants are required to complete the online form, upload necessary documents, and make the payment online. Biometric data will be collected upon arrival at the port of entry in India. Processing times typically range from three to four working days.

“The e-Visa launch is a milestone in enhancing people-to-people contact between India and Kuwait,” said officials from the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. “It reflects India’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure in consular services and promoting inbound travel for tourism, business, healthcare, and wellness.”

Strong Bilateral Ties

India and Kuwait share deep-rooted economic and cultural relations. The introduction of the e-Visa comes at a time when both countries are seeking to increase collaboration in trade, tourism, education, and healthcare. More than 8,000 tourist visas were issued to Kuwaiti nationals last year, a number expected to rise significantly with the introduction of this streamlined system.

The development also complements existing direct flight connectivity between major cities in both countries, supported by a bilateral air services agreement allowing up to 12,000 seats per week.

Student Visas Still Offline

While the e-Visa system covers several key visa categories, student visas remain outside its scope and must still be processed through traditional visa application centers.
