The Indian government has introduced two new visa categories to make it easier for international students to come to India for higher education. These visas are called the "e-student visa" and the "e-student-x visa." Both can be applied for through the online Study in India (SII) portal.
The SII portal simplifies the application process for international students applying to Indian universities and colleges, regardless of program length. Students can register on the SII portal and get accepted into a program at a participating institution. Once accepted, they can apply for their visa on the official indianvisaonline.gov.in website using their SII ID to verify and track their application.
The e-student visa is for students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, or certificate programs at approved Indian institutions. This visa is valid for up to five years and can be renewed while in India. Students with an e-student visa can enter India through any designated immigration checkpoint.
The e-student-x visa is for the dependents (like spouses and children) of e-student visa holders. This allows family members to accompany students while they study in India.
