In a significant move to enhance travel convenience, Japan has launched an e-Visa system for Indian tourists, effective April 1, 2024. This initiative allows Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India to apply online for a single-entry, short-term visa, permitting stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes.

Key Benefits:

  • Streamlined Application Process: Applicants can now submit their visa applications electronically through the VFS Global-managed Japan Visa Application Centre, reducing paperwork and processing time.
  • Convenient Entry: Upon arrival in Japan, travelers need to present a digital 'visa issuance notice' on their mobile devices, eliminating the need for physical visa stickers.

Application Steps:

  1. Access the Official Portal: Visit the VFS Global Japan Visa Application Centre's website.
  2. Complete the Application: Select 'Temporary Visitor Visa,' download and accurately fill out the application form, and gather the necessary documents.
  3. Schedule an Appointment: Book a slot to submit your application at the Visa Application Centre; a confirmation email will follow.
  4. Submit and Track: Attend your appointment to submit the application. You can monitor the status online using the provided reference number.
  5. Receive e-Visa: Once approved, a 'visa issuance notice' will be emailed to you. Ensure this notice is accessible on your mobile device during travel.

Fees:

  • Single or Multiple Entry Visa: ₹500
  • Transit Visa: ₹50
  • VFS Service Fee: ₹800

Important Reminder:

At airport check-in, display the 'visa issuance notice' on your mobile device. Printed copies or screenshots are not accepted; internet access is required to present the digital notice.

This e-Visa system underscores Japan's commitment to facilitating smoother entry for Indian tourists, making the Land of the Rising Sun more accessible than ever.
