Amandeep Singh, a Congress councillor from Ward 12 in Ludhiana, has been booked in a visa fraud case. The complaint was filed by Naurang Singh, a resident of Phullanwal village, who accused Amandeep of taking ₹14 lakh from him under the false promise of securing a Canadian visa for his son. The case was registered at Sadar police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and criminal breach of trust.
According to the complaint, Amandeep Singh was introduced to Naurang Singh through a mutual contact and assured him that he could arrange the visa. However, after taking the money, he failed to deliver on his promise and did not return the funds despite multiple requests. The complainant then approached the police, leading to an investigation and the subsequent registration of the case.
Amandeep Singh, on his part, has denied all allegations and claimed that he never took any money for visa-related matters. He has stated that the accusations are baseless and politically motivated. Police officials have confirmed that they are conducting a detailed investigation before taking further action.
Interestingly, Congress leaders have also defended Amandeep Singh, pointing out that a similar complaint was filed against him in 2013. That case was investigated and dismissed twice due to lack of evidence. They believe this new complaint is another attempt to target him politically, though the police are treating it as a fresh case and proceeding with due diligence.
