A Ludhiana resident has been defrauded of ₹31.5 lakh in a visa scam, prompting police to register a case and launch a search for the accused travel agent, who remains at large.

According to police, the victim, Gurveer Singh of Rajouri Garden, Barewal, was introduced to the accused, identified as Amritpal Singh, through a mutual contact. The accused allegedly promised to secure permanent residency in Canada and collected the amount in multiple installments. Despite repeated assurances, the promised visa was never delivered, and the agent refused to refund the money.

An FIR has been registered at the Sahnewal police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigating officer ASI Sadhu Singh confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the suspect.

Officials have urged the public to remain cautious when dealing with immigration agents, advising applicants to verify credentials, avoid large cash payments without documentation, and keep detailed records of all transactions.

The case adds to a growing number of visa fraud incidents in Punjab, where several similar scams involving large sums and false promises of overseas opportunities have recently been reported.
