The Philippine government has expanded its electronic visa (e-Visa) system to applicants from India, allowing them to apply for the 9(a) Temporary Visitor’s Visa online. This visa is meant for short-term stays such as tourism, business, medical treatments, and participation in events like conferences or athletic activities. Applicants can obtain either a single or multiple-entry visa with a validity of up to one year, depending on the consular decision.

The introduction of the e-Visa system aims to simplify the application process, eliminating the need for applicants to visit consulates in person. However, the e-Visa cannot be extended or converted into other types of visas, such as work visas. Those planning to work in the Philippines are advised to apply for a stamped 9(a) visa instead, which allows them to later convert it into a work visa (such as a 9(g) or PEZA visa) once in the country.

This expansion is part of the Philippines' broader goal to modernize its visa process and make it more accessible. By the end of 2024, the e-Visa system is expected to be fully implemented for other nationalities, further streamlining the visa application process for international visitors.

The move to offer e-Visas reflects the country's efforts to encourage tourism and business travel, making it easier for Indian nationals and, eventually, other foreign nationals, to visit the Philippines for short-term purposes.
