Indian travellers planning to visit Europe will now face higher visa expenses following a service fee increase by VFS Global, the agency responsible for processing Schengen visa applications in India.
While the base visa fee charged by European embassies remains largely unchanged (approximately ₹8,000–₹10,000), the VFS service fee—a mandatory payment for processing—has been revised upward across several Schengen destinations.
According to the new rates:
The increase applies to all visa applicants and is in addition to the visa fee and optional services such as courier delivery or premium lounge access.
VFS Global cited its contractual agreements with European governments, enhanced security infrastructure, and the depreciation of the Indian rupee as key reasons behind the revision. The company added that the adjustment reflects rising operational costs in maintaining visa application centres across India.
Industry experts believe the hike will particularly affect students and middle-income travellers, who already face steep travel and documentation expenses. With India witnessing record-high demand for Schengen visas, the increase could make European trips more expensive for budget-conscious applicants.
The move comes at a time when the Schengen area continues to be one of the most popular destinations for Indian tourists, students, and professionals. Travellers are advised to check updated country-specific service fees on the official VFS Global website before planning their applications.
