Slovenia has officially announced the launch of its Digital Nomad Visa, set to roll out from November 21, 2025, enabling non-EU remote workers to live and work in the country for up to one year.

The initiative aims to position Slovenia as a competitive destination for location-independent professionals, freelancers, and entrepreneurs working for foreign companies or clients. The visa is open to non-EU/EEA citizens who can demonstrate stable remote employment or business activity outside Slovenia.

To qualify, applicants must meet key eligibility criteria:

  • Proof of remote work for a foreign employer or clients
  • A minimum monthly income of €3,200
  • Valid health insurance coverage
  • A clean criminal record

Successful applicants will be granted a temporary residence permit valid for 12 months. Although the visa is non-renewable, individuals may reapply after spending at least six months outside Slovenia.

Visa holders are not permitted to work for Slovenian companies or engage in local business. However, they may bring their spouse or dependent children, who can also stay for the duration of the permit without local employment rights.

Applications will be accepted through Slovenian embassies, local administrative units, or the official e-government portal. If applying from within Slovenia, individuals may be issued a temporary residence certificate to remain legally in the country while their application is processed.

As a Schengen member, Slovenia offers digital nomads visa-free access to 28 other countries in the zone, enhancing its appeal for remote professionals seeking flexibility and mobility in Europe.

Authorities believe this move will boost sustainable tourism, support local economies, and attract international talent, while providing professionals with an affordable, scenic, and stable base in the heart of Europe.
