In a landmark move reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and climate action, the United Arab Emirates has officially launched the Blue Residency Visa — a 10-year residency permit aimed at individuals making exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.

A Green Vision with Global Reach

The Blue Residency Visa is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to position itself as a global leader in environmental innovation. Announced in 2024 and now open for applications, the visa supports the country’s Year of Sustainability initiative and follows the success of the Golden Visa program for investors and specialized professionals.

Who Can Apply?

The long-term visa targets a broad range of environmental champions, including:

  • Environmental researchers, scientists, and innovators
  • Climate change advocates and sustainability activists
  • Members of international environmental organizations and NGOs
  • Entrepreneurs and investors in green and renewable energy sectors
  • Winners of prestigious global environmental awards
  • Distinguished professionals working in UAE-based environmental institutions

Notably, both UAE residents and qualified individuals from outside the country are eligible to apply.

A Simple Application Process

Applications for the Blue Residency Visa can be submitted via the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) through its smart services platform or mobile app.
The streamlined process requires:

  • A valid passport (minimum six months validity)
  • Recent color photograph
  • Proof of notable contributions in environmental fields
  • Payment of applicable fees

The ICP reports that the application process takes as little as seven minutes, with approvals generally processed within one working day after verification.

Support for Global Applicants

To assist foreign applicants, the UAE is also offering a 180-day multiple-entry visa, allowing them to enter the country and complete the necessary residency procedures.

A Sustainable Future

With this initiative, the UAE is not only honoring individuals at the forefront of climate action but also enhancing its own environmental credentials on the global stage.

“The Blue Residency is a bold step in attracting global sustainability leaders who can help drive the UAE’s vision for a greener, more sustainable future,” said a government spokesperson.
