Indian citizens can obtain a visa-on-arrival (VOA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), provided they hold a valid residence permit or long-term visa from select countries, according to a report by The Economic Times.
Under the updated travel rule, Indian passport holders with a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union member states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, or Singapore are eligible for the visa-on-arrival facility.
To qualify, travelers must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the UAE. The VOA is a single-entry visa and cannot be converted into other visa categories.
Visa Duration and Fees
Two types of visas are available on arrival:
The payment is made at the airport upon arrival, and travelers must apply for any extension before their current visa expires.
Eligibility and Exclusions
The visa-on-arrival facility applies only to Indian citizens holding an ordinary passport and a valid qualifying visa or residence permit from the listed countries.
Those without such valid documentation must follow the regular UAE visa application process prior to travel. Expired or cancelled residence permits or visas from the qualifying countries make applicants ineligible for the on-arrival option.
Travel Advisory
Indian travelers with valid residence permits from countries such as the US or UK are advised to carry physical proof of their visa or residence card during travel. The facility is available at all major UAE entry points, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah airports.
The visa-on-arrival scheme is expected to further encourage short-term visits, business trips, and tourism between India and the UAE — one of the most frequented routes for Indian travelers.
