Police in Karnataka have uncovered a major overseas job scam in which a Chandigarh-based company allegedly defrauded a local resident of nearly ₹63.91 lakh by promising employment opportunities abroad.
The complaint was filed by Vasanth D. Poojary, who alleged that a firm named Advice House Experts, along with individuals linked to Shagun HR Global in Chandigarh, collected large sums of money under the pretext of arranging foreign jobs.
According to police, Poojary initially paid about ₹7 lakh for two acquaintances’ jobs in Azerbaijan. The company provided job offers and tickets but later cancelled them. Despite repeated setbacks, Poojary went on to pay additional amounts for arranging overseas employment for 20 more people, bringing the total to over ₹63 lakh.
When the jobs failed to materialize, Poojary visited the company’s office multiple times but only received verbal assurances. The accused later issued two cheques worth ₹6 lakh each, which bounced as the account had been closed.
Based on the complaint, Kaup Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cheating, breach of trust, and fraud. Investigations are underway to trace the accused and recover the defrauded money.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious of fraudulent recruitment agencies and to verify the legitimacy of overseas job offers before making payments.
