The Mohali Police have uncovered a massive visa fraud racket involving over ₹1.5 crore, filing 11 First Information Reports (FIRs) within just 24 hours against multiple unauthorized immigration firms operating in the region.
According to officials, the investigation was led by Inspector Jaskamal Singh Sekhon of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit under the supervision of DSP Jatinder Singh Chauhan. The action was taken after several victims—mainly students and job seekers—reported being cheated by fraudulent travel and visa agencies that promised overseas employment and study opportunities.
Among the firms named in the FIRs are Nexus Academy (Zirakpur), Best Travel Agency, and Royal Gateway of Migration, all accused of collecting large sums from clients under the pretext of providing guaranteed visas or placements abroad. The agencies allegedly failed to deliver on their commitments and, in several cases, disappeared after receiving payments.
Police have registered cases under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 61(2), as well as Section 24 of the Immigration Act. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed that a special task force has been formed to clamp down on illegal immigration activities across the district. He urged citizens to verify the credentials of immigration agents before making any payments and to approach only government-approved and licensed consultants.
The SSP also advised the public to report suspicious activities or fraudulent immigration offers through the Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) or their nearest police station.
This crackdown highlights a growing concern in Punjab and neighboring regions, where fake visa consultancies continue to exploit the aspirations of young people seeking overseas opportunities. The Mohali Police’s swift action marks one of the largest coordinated responses against immigration fraud in recent months.
