Indian passport holders can now travel to 59 countries without a pre-approved visa, according to the latest update from the Henley Passport Index. The expanded access includes visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival (VoA), and electronic travel authorisation (ETA) facilities, offering greater convenience for Indian tourists, business travellers, and frequent flyers.

Key Visa-Free Destinations

Popular visa-free countries in 2025 include Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Macao, Kazakhstan, Iran, Barbados, Dominica, Fiji, Kenya, and Angola. Many others in the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and Africa also offer simplified entry for Indian citizens.

Recent Policy Changes

Several nations have updated their entry policies for Indians this year:

  • Philippines introduced visa-free entry from June 8, 2025, allowing Indian visitors a 14-day stay or 30 days if holding a valid visa or residence permit from select countries such as the US, UK, or Schengen states.
  • Russia announced a 30-day visa-free scheme for Indian tourists, aimed at boosting bilateral travel and tourism.
  • Palau joined the list by granting 30-day visa-free access for Indians earlier this year.

Travel Guidelines

Authorities advise travellers to:

  • Carry a passport valid for at least six months.
  • Have confirmed return or onward travel tickets.
  • Provide proof of accommodation and sufficient funds for their stay.
  • Check specific entry duration limits for each destination.

Global Standing

India’s enhanced travel access reflects stronger diplomatic ties and growing tourism demand. However, officials caution travellers to verify the latest immigration rules on official government portals before booking, as visa policies are subject to change.
