A man from Mangaluru has alleged that he was cheated of ₹19.2 lakh in a fraudulent visa scheme, prompting police to launch an investigation.
According to the complaint filed at Kankanady Town police station, the victim was seeking an employment visa to Europe when he was introduced—through a religious leader in Kannur—to one Mohammed Azman, who claimed to be working abroad. Azman reportedly assured the victim that he could secure the visa for ₹4.5 lakh.
Trusting his claims, the victim and his brother met Azman and his associate Tausif on May 9 and eventually paid a total of ₹19.2 lakh in installments. Despite repeated assurances, the visa never materialized. When pressed for answers, Azman allegedly threatened the victim with legal action and warned him not to approach his residence.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The incident adds to a series of similar frauds reported in the region, where unsuspecting job seekers are lured with promises of overseas employment and duped of large sums.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, verify credentials of recruiters, and avoid making upfront payments to individuals posing as visa facilitators.
