To apply for an Italian visa from India, it's important to note that the jurisdiction for processing your application is determined by your current place of residence for the past 6 months, not your place of issue of your passport or your permanent residency. Please keep in mind that visa applications cannot be processed for applicants who are not permanently residing in India, including Indian nationals. If you're visiting India and plan to go to Italy, you must apply for a Schengen visa before departing from the relevant Consulate of your country of residence.
When you're ready to apply, you'll need to prepare the required documents, such as a valid passport, travel itinerary, and proof of financial means, among others. The processing time for your application may vary, so be sure to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for the processing of your visa.
If you're a resident of the West or South of India, you'll also need to pay the VFS service fee when booking your appointment. As of April 1st, 2022, this fee is non-refundable as per the instructions from the Italian Consulate in Mumbai.
