- First, figure out which visa you need and see if you qualify for it.
- Find out what documents you need to submit, how long it might take, and the fees.
- Make sure your application follows the rules for your visa category.
- If your documents aren't in English, you might need translations before applying.
- Download the visa application form.
- Fill it out.
- Print the completed form.
- Take the form, along with the necessary documents for your chosen visa category, to the Visa Application Centre for submission.
- After filling out your visa form, you need to set up an appointment at a Visa Application Center for fingerprinting and a photo, called 'biometric information.'
- Once your appointment is scheduled, you'll get an email confirming it, along with an appointment letter.
- If you're applying as a family or group, each person should book their own appointment.
- After sending your application, you'll have to pay the visa fee. If you print the form and bring it to the Visa Application Centre, you can pay when you go for your appointment.
- The visa fee is paid at Visa Application Centre.
- You must bring your completed visa application form to the Visa Application Centre in person.

Once your visa application decision is made, you have two options for getting your passport:
- Collecting in Person: Bring the receipt from the Visa Application Centre and a valid government ID. If allowed, you can send a representative with a letter of authorization signed by you, along with the receipt and their ID.
- Courier Delivery: For an extra fee, your passport can be sent to you via courier.

After arriving in Luxembourg:
- filing an arrival declaration: When you arrive in Luxembourg, it’s important to let the local government in the town where you’ll be living know that you’re now a resident there. This is done by submitting an “arrival declaration” at the town hall or local government office.
- Have a medical check-up: As part of the process of staying in Luxembourg, you may be required to undergo a medical examination. This ensures that you are in good health and meet any health requirements for your stay.
- Apply for a residence permit If you’ve come to Luxembourg to work and you’re not a Luxembourg citizen, you’ll need to apply for a “residence permit.” This permit allows you to legally live and work in the country.
- If an employer can’t find a local candidate for a job posted with the Employment Development Agency within 3 weeks, they can request a certificate from the Agency’s Director. This certificate lets them hire someone from a third country:
- When employers in Luxembourg have a job opening, they typically have to first try to find a suitable candidate from the local job market. If they can’t find a suitable local candidate within 3 weeks of posting the job with the Employment Development Agency (ADEM), they can ask the Director of ADEM for a certificate. This certificate allows them to hire someone from a different country (a “third country”) for the job.

- The temporary residence permit is valid for 90 days. During this period, if you’re from another country, you must either get a Schengen visa(National Long Term Visa D).
